Kappa Youth Development, Inc. in conjunction with the Five Karats will be awarding a scholarship in the amount of $1000 to a graduating high school African American Male student (Business-Major) that will attend and 4-year college or university in Maryland.  Applicant must live in Southern Prince Georges County or Southern Maryland,  enrolled and attending a 4-year college or university in Maryland during the 2026-2027 school year. Must have a high school cumulative GPA of 2.5.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for the 2025 Five Karats/Kappa Youth Development, Incorporated Scholarship, students must:

  1. Be a graduating high school senior.
  2. Must be an African American Male.
  3. Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 out of 4.0.
  4. Enrolled and attending a 4 year college or university in Maryland during the 2026-2027 academic school year.
  5. Must be majoring in a business-related degree
  6. Must live in Prince Georges County or Southern Maryland,

Criteria

In order to be considered for the award, all applicants must submit the following information:

From Applicant:

  1. Completed application – typed and signed, an electronic signature is acceptable.
  2. Completed application essays – typed Essays are limited to 500 words. (See section 11 for more details)
  3. Student resume (1-2 pgs) – outlines leadership, extracurricular activities, work experience, awards.
  4. College information sheet – includes list of schools accepted to, intended major, career interests.
  5. Acceptance letter from university.
  6. A copy of your high school transcript included with your application.

Application deadline is March 1, 2026 to be received by Kappa Youth Development, Inc. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
